In the Hospitality Industry, it is very important not only to make a great first impression but to keep this positive impression throughout the guest's journey.  The bellman is usually the first impression and could also be the last impression as guests are leaving. There was an article that was written by Harry Nobles that I thought was very appropriate. During my many years of inspecting and evaluating hundreds of hotels and restaurants and dealing with thousands of employees, I sometimes think I have experienced every possible example of service delivery.  I hope I am wrong because that might lessen my enthusiastic anticipation at visiting and shopping the next property. How often do you think about the doorstops at your facility?  They may often be overlooked, but they are an essential part of the day-to-day job of any maintenance or janitorial team. Protecting Children’s Fingers from Door Injuries

Finger Injuries can be prevented A 20-month-old child lost the tip of his finger after getting it caught in the hinge-side of a large metal door. Multiple employees were working at the child care center and all children were well supervised at the time of the incident. As one employee began taking another child outside, the 20-month-old followed and was trapped by the door. Even though the door was equipped with a slowing mechanism, the child was unable to avoid injury. Several surgeries were required because the child’s bone continued to grow through the finger. Could Opening a Door Cause Workplace Injuries?

When you think of workplace injuries that qualify for Workers' Compensation, does opening a door come to mind?  Probably not.  But there was an employee in New York that filed a case for workers' comp due to injuries she sustained to her shoulder and elbow by opening a door several times per day. Bariza Laib was a case manager for the State Insurance Fund. Laib says she injured her right shoulder and elbow by repeatedly closing and pulling open the heavy front door of a building in which she worked for five years. The door is made of thick metal and glass with a tight spring that was particularly difficult to open and close on windy days. She complained to security guards in the building lobby about the problem. Laib says she had to use the door four to six times a day.
